Homemade Cat Treat Ingredient List:

Cleocatra M. Whiskernips’ Cat Chow
1 3-oz jar wet cat food (I used Seafood Fancy Feast but a can of tuna would work as well)
1/4 cup catnip
1 cup brown whole wheat flour
1/2 cup cooked brown (or white) rice
1 large egg
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons fish sauce (this just upped the flavor, but is not necessary)

Begin cooking your rice as directed – I used regular brown rice but instant rice will work as well.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper – set aside.

In a bowl, mix wet cat food (or tuna), catnip, egg, olive oil, water and fish sauce.  Add brown rice flour and cooked rice. The mixture will be thick but spreadable – and a little stinky. If it seems a little too wet, just add another tablespoon of wheat flour.

By now, your kitties should be circling your legs, maybe even sneaking their way across the counter for a better sniff.

Spread mixture onto prepared baking sheet, about 1/3 of an inch thick. Bake for 12 minutes.

Remove from the oven. Let cool until you are able to handle and slice soft dough into bite-sized pieces. Return pieces to the oven to bake for another 8 minutes.

Allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container in the fridge. Prep your containers for your party and fill them prior to your pawty.

We tried two different jars with custom Zebra DIY tags. The glass milk jar with cork was a great size but not air tight, so we decided to go with the glass mason jar. Both would be adorable cat party favors!

  2. Let us know how it goes – Even the pups thought these homemade cat treats were fantastic and hovered around the counter looking for drop-offs!

I think the key is to keep them just a little chewy and not bake all the way through so you may want to adjust the time depending on your oven.
