A Baby Changes Everything

During this busy time of year our thoughts often turn to the typical sights and sounds of the season – carolers and cookies, bells and bows, sleigh rides and Silent Night.  Here at the Big Dot of Happiness, we have discovered that our customers are usually so occupied with their holiday preparations that any plans to host baby showers must be placed on hold for a few weeks.   I must admit that I, too, have fallen under the same yuletide spell that blinds me from considering anything not related to the December revelry.  But recently I was captivated by a Christmas song that was playing on the radio and it has given me a brand new outlook on this very special time of year.  The song is titled, “A Baby Changes Everything”* and is sung by country singer Faith Hill.  It is only appropriate that the words caught my attention because after all, celebrating babies is what we do best at the Big Dot!  While the song focuses on an extraordinary baby born to a humble teenage mom long, long ago, I couldn’t help but think about all of the amazing customers to whom I have had the privilege of speaking with on a daily basis.  Their hopes and dreams for their soon-to-be-born children are not all that different from that young frightened girl’s over two thousand years ago.   So let us remember to take time out of our busy schedules to ponder the truly important things this season – the love of family and friends, the celebration of new birth and the promise of a bright tomorrow.  After all, a baby does change everything.

  1. I just wanted to say that what Patty wrote hit home with me. Babies are truly miracles and I think sometimes we forget this and do not treasure them the way we should. We must always remember that our children need to know that they are loved every day of their lives. Thanks Patty!!
