Inexpensive, easy to find and available in a variety of sizes and styles, paper doilies may be one of my new favorite ways to dress up place settings and other party decorations. When I set out to experiment with them the other day using BigDotofHappiness.com’s elegant Silhouette Couples It’s a Baby – baby shower theme, I was amazed at how easy it was to fold, wrap and layer paper doilies to dress up my mint green and chocolate brown party decorations. All you need are paper doilies, ribbon, candy and personalized stickers! 

To create your own miniature lace candy bouquet, simply cut a slit from the outer edge of a 10-inch paper doily to the center, then fold the sides together until your paper cone is the desired width. Secure the two sides with double-stick tape, then insert the paper cone into Big Dot of Happiness’ adorable mini chrome spiral stand. Fill the cone with candy or mints, add some ribbon and display one in the center of each guest’s plate. What a lovely treat for each guest!

To create your own lace candy pouch, fold a 12-inch doily in half. Lay the folded doily lace-side up in front of you and bring the two corners together so you’re left with three sections of the same size. Secure the two folded sides together using a dab of hot glue along the entire outside edge, then decorate your lace pouch with coordinating ribbon and a personalized sticker. Fill the pouch with candy or mints, and set one next to each guest’s plate for a pretty treat!

You could also use paper doilies as drink coasters or string a few together to create a doily banner.
