The last thing a busy hostess needs is a putzy, super-involved dessert to prepare as she’s planning a baby shower…so hand crafted truffles (as gorgeous, impressive and delicious as they are) are generally missing from all but the most ambitious of shower menus. Well, no longer. Even the busiest of hostesses can now feature beautiful truffles in their shower spread, because I’m about to hand over a secret weapon: the Oreo Truffle.
These little babies are a cinch to make — just three easy ingredients! — so you can impress your guests with delicious, homemade truffles without putting in tons of work. And really, what’s not to love about Oreos, cream cheese and chocolate? You may want to make a double batch…
Oreo Truffles
These yummy truffles are equally delicious whether dipped in white or dark chocolate, so go with your favorite. If you’d like to dress them up a bit, you can drizzle the tops with a bit of extra white or dark chocolate, sprinkle them with some reserved crushed cookie or dust them with cocoa powder. Or, you know, just devour them plain, right out of the refrigerator…
1 (16 oz) package Oreo sandwich cookies
1 (8 oz) pkg. cream cheese, softened
Dark or white chocolate for dipping (about 2 cups)
In a food processor, crush the Oreos (use whole cookies, including the frosting) until they are coarse crumbs. In a large bowl, combine the cookie crumbs with the softened cream cheese. If you’re struggling to get the mixture to come together, try using the back of a spoon to press the mixture together until it combines. When the cream cheese is mixed in evenly, roll the mixture into ¾- to 1-inch balls and place them on a baking tray lined with waxed paper. Place the tray in the refrigerator or freezer to chill as you prepare the chocolate for dipping. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler (add a bit of shortening if it seems too thick) until it reaches a good consistency for dipping. One at a time, dip each chilled truffle in the chocolate, removing it with a fork and letting the excess chocolate drip off through the fork tines before placing the truffle back on the waxed paper to harden. When each truffle has been dipped (and decorated, if you choose to do so), place the tray back into the refrigerator or freezer to harden completely before you package them up.
Your baby shower guests will love receiving these are a delicious treat, tucked into an organza bag and topped off with a personalized square tag from Big Dot.
Enjoy!
