BigDotofHappiness.com has paired their stylish three-tier cupcake stand with 13 themed cupcake wrappers, and the possibilities of this convenient pairing are practically endless! Since I’ve already used my Luau birthday party cupcake stand and wrappers to hold traditional cupcakes (and the feedback I received at the party was marvelous), I couldn’t wait to find another reason to celebrate with this handy decoration… and a recent gathering to celebrate the start of summer proved to be the perfect opportunity! For a change, I simply layered colorful jello in individual plastic cups, then wrapped the final product in my Luau cupcake wrappers and arranged them on my stand. The finished display, with all its colorful flair, proved to be a fun, simple, and yummy way to use my cupcake stand and wrappers.
You’ll Need:
- 4 six-ounce packages of jello (I used yellow, orange, red, and green)
- Small plastic party cups
For the white layer that separates the colored jello layers:
- 2 packages of plain gelatin
- 2 cups of water (1/2 cup for each package of jello)
- 2 cups of sour cream
- 2 cups of milk
- 4 cups hot water (1 cup for each pack of jello)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
Instructions:
1. Dissolve your first pack of jello in 1 cup of boiling water, then add ½ cup cold water. Pour into your plastic cups, covering a small portion (about an eighth of an inch) of each cup. Place your cups in the refrigerator to begin chilling (a process that took about 2 hours for me).
2. While your cups are chilling, you can begin making the white layer. Begin by dissolving both envelopes of unflavored gelatin into ½ cup boiling water.
3. In a large saucepan, bring the milk to a boil.
4. Remove the pan of milk from heat and add sugar, mixing until dissolved.
5. Add the dissolved, unflavored gelatin to the milk and sugar mix.
6. With an electric mixer, add the sour cream and vanilla and mix until even. Set aside to let cool.
7. Once the first jello layer has set inside the plastic cups, pour a small amount of the white layer (about an eighth of an inch) on top.
8. Place the cups back inside the refrigerator to continue chilling. Once the white layer sets, repeat steps 1 and 7 until you finish all four layers of jello.
Although the wait time between each layer is about two hours, the steps in between are super simple. I completed this treat the day before the event, and left the cups in the fridge to chill overnight. It took me just a few minutes to wrap each plastic cup with a themed cupcake wrapper and place each cup on the stand. In no time, I had a colorful jello display that looked adorable – and disappeared fast!

I’m trying to find the perfect sized cup to put them in cupcake wrappers. Do you recall what size cup you used? Every one I’ve tried hasn’t fit quite right… Thanks!
Hello,
Thanks for reaching out! Sorry, as this is an old post I am uncertain of the exact size cup that these are. We would have gotten these clear plastic cups from a local convenient store. The cupcake wrappers are adjustable, so if you find a cup close enough you can adjust the size of the cupcake wrappers to fit. Happy crafting!
